Abstract
• Discarded burnt-tyre ash adds to the source of environmental pollution in the aquatic ecosystem. • Invitro exposure of water-soluble fraction of burnt-tyre ash affected hematological markers in Clarias gariepinus biomodel. • Moderate to severe histopathological lesions were evident in the fish, in a dose and time-dependent pattern. • The recovery of fish from the toxicant-induced impairment was not certain in just 14 days. Aquatic habitats serve as pollutant reservoirs and experience massive pollution disasters due to anthropogenic pressure.
