Demand for Blueberries: Exploring US Consumer Preferences

Abstract
This study analyzes consumer demand for blueberries using recent data from the NielsenIQ Consumer Panel. We summarize blueberry demand in the United States according to demographic factors, including household size, income group, household race and ethnicity, and household geographic region, among others. We also explore trends in the demand for organic blueberries specifically. We estimate the price elasticity of demand for blueberries to understand whether the industry has priced the product to maximize revenues. Research findings suggest that demand for blueberries is mildly inelastic, with an estimated elasticity of demand of −0.96, indicating that current pricing for the product is near maximizing revenues for the blueberry industry.
