Silva There is a very rich range of recent new literature in Quaker history, includingreligioushistory, social activism, and theprivate lives ofFriends— and how these interact. Two articles provide brief overviews ofthe full span of Quaker religious history. In "Changing Patterns of Koinonia and Authority," (Friends Quarterly 30.6. (1997): 285-297), Jim Wickens examines the state of communion, fellowship, way of life, self-image, and authority in five periods of Quakerism. His analysis pinpoints authority and identity as the central problems of twentieth-century Quakerism. Warren Steinkraus presents an historical review in his contribution on "Quaker Mysticism" in Mysticism and the Mystical Experience, edited by Donald H.
