Abstract
AbstractWeirs are constructed to control flow and to modify instream flow characteristics for river restoration. A clear understanding of their effects on flow by different layouts of the structure is necessary to guide their design for attaining desired results. Numerical modeling and laboratory experiments have been carried out to compare flow structures with linear and folded weirs. A three-dimensional finite volume model with the turbulence closure has been verified and applied for numerical modeling. A good correspondence is observed among the computed flow pattern, surface jet characteristics and laboratory measurements.
