Abstract

A low-profile microstrip patch antenna (LMPA) with defected ground structure (DGS) for 5G applications has been developed and proposed in the paper. The antenna has a large bandwidth of 5.85 GHz that supports huge data volume. The antenna is capable of operating from 25.52 GHz to 31.37 GHz with very good scattering properties. It possesses a return loss of -35.353dB at the resonant frequency of 27.26 GHz. Rogers RT 5880 dielectric substrate having a relative permittivity of 2.2 and tangent loss of 0.0009 is used for the antenna. The volume of the antenna substrate is 20 mm×20mm×0.79mm. The gain and directivity of the patch antenna varies from 3 dB to 6 dB and 5.1 dBi to 7.9 dBi respectively within…
