Here is a startling fact: There is still no country in the world today in which are equal to men.It is true, however, that 2011 was a banner year for women. For the first-time ever, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to three - Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee of the Liberian women's peace movement, and Tawakkol Karman, a human rights activist in Yemen - for their work on women's rights and peace activism. Earlier in the year, the International Monetary Fund appointed France's former finance minister, Christine Lagarde, as its first female head.
