Abstract
Bhatia, Poynting and Tufail's manuscript is a selection of critical chapters demonstrating the too-often undiscussed connection between media, crime, and racism. The contributions critically observe how racism and crimes are newsworthy attractions for right-wing media, news organisations and, most recently, unaccountable digital (social) media. As suggested by Eamonn Carabine in the book's foreword, Bhatia, Poynting and Tufail make a good attempt to continue the theoretical legacy of Hall et al.’s (1977) seminal work Policing the Crisis by bringing together chapters that demonstrate how the mass media, justified by the need to create profitable news, are often both racist towards the powerless and uncritical of white racism.
